-This part has proven a very problematic item on the M271 TURBO engines, leading to many oil leaks on these cars. The plastic housing can suffer cracks which can cause oil to leak either externally or internally. Some believe the rubber used on some of the seals may not have been oil resistant enough, which may cause the rubber gasket/seals inside to be affected by the hot oil, swell and get puffy, and in some cases actually cause the plastic surrounding (and positioning) the gasket to crack. Repeated temperature changes and the nature of plastic parts themselves only contribute to this rash of early failures.
